Karya Collective
About us

We do the work that makes fundraising work.

Karya Collective exists so nonprofit development teams can focus on what only they can do: building relationships with the people who fund their mission.

कार्य kārya
Hindi, from Sanskrit · noun
  1. Work; a task.
  2. That which ought to be done.

Our name holds both meanings: the everyday work of fundraising operations, and the duty to do it well.

Steve Bourdow

Founder & Principal

Steve is a nonprofit development leader with over 25 years of experience building and leading fundraising programs — from annual giving to comprehensive campaigns, from small nonprofits to top-tier research universities. Steve has a unique talent for inspiring and coaching individuals and groups to achieve their goals.

He founded Karya Collective after seeing, again and again, how much fundraising potential is lost when talented development staff are buried in operational work — and how much a reliable, well-run development operations team can change that.

What we believe

01

Operations are strategy

Timely acknowledgments, clean data, and good research aren't overhead. They're ways to build trust with donors.

02

Capacity should be accessible

Every organization deserves the kind of operational support usually reserved for the largest organizations — at a cost that fits a nonprofit budget.

03

Partnership over transactions

We learn your organization, keep the same people on your account, and grow with you over time.

Let's see if we're a fit.

A short conversation is the best way to find out.
